Yang Peiyi, the pretty voice behind pretty-faced Lin Miaoke (who ’sang’ at the Olympic Opening Ceremony, so we thought)

Watching the Opening ceremony it was pretty obvious that the little girl singing before the parade of ‘ethnic minority’ children wasn’t actually singing live. In the heat and the noise of 90,000 people, no voice would have been that clear or solid, so it was pretty obvious it was a taped.
However, today we learned the Mili-Vanilli truth behind the song. While Lin Miaoke had the ‘look’ of a cute Chinese girl singing, she didn’t really have the voice to be singing in front of an audience of billions. The true voice was with Yang Peiyi, who didn’t have the look and was relegated to singing in front of an audience of a few sound engineers.
Yang Peiyi had a pretty voice. Bloggers should spread the word about this to help her get the credit she is due.

Feel a bit sorry for both girls.
Could see she was lipsynching (hey, if it’s good enough for the Grammies/MTV awards…) but thought she was at least lipsynching her own stuff (like Pavarotti at another opening), not doing a Milli Vanilli act to someone else’ voice.
On the plus side, there are now two famous young chinese girls instead of just one (and what an opening ceremony it was)!
But please, please China: let’s have both Miaoke and Peiyi on stage for the closing ceremony, lipsynched or not!!!!
I just felt deceived and deeply ashamed as a Chinese. The administration have managed to deceive all the people in the world and once again demonstrated their superb arts of cheating!!!!!!! However, as Lincoln put: “You can cheat some people all the time, you can cheat all the people for some time, but you cannot cheat all the people all the time” .
My only bit of confidence in the administration has died with the last straw!!!!!!!!

I feel what China did is wrong on a human level.
But some of those using this to throw egg in China’s face are hypocrites.
We all know that the United States is one of the most image-absorbed countries in the world.
When I see some blond, blue eyed, large-breasted LA news reporter talking about how they are disappointed in China and how talent should take precedent over looks I swear I just want to laugh!
This just shows some of the crap girls Yang’s age go through. I mean talk about peer pressure. Yang is adorable, and more then half the world has said it, she would of been great to SING live in front of everyone. She’s only 7 and already people are saying she’s not China’s “perfect child”. Finally the weight is lifted to show how perfectionist, stereotypical, and superficial China can be. I hope they’re happy because Friday’s opening made the headlines, but for all the wrong reasons. And i thought the
U.S. was shallow.
I don’t understand why they had to do that. Because those two who sang the theme song on the globe, Sarah Brightman and Liu Huan, are not perfect looking either. But on the other hand, things on stages and movies are fake anyways. Actors and actress are hired to fake, to pretend. That’s what acting means. At least they are not hiding it. This whole thing was first revealed by the ceremony musical director on their state own media. So I think the credits had already been given to the girls.
I can’t help but feel that, despite its slogan, the Beijing olympics will be remembered as an occasion where no-one dared to dream. Not the organisers, not the media, not the spectators. It’s so hard to let the athletes and their ideals take centre stage when so much politics, patriotism and paranoia get in the way.

I am not suprised about this cheating because the chinese goverment always did these. I know this because I am Burmese and China government always cheat my country and supporting the burmese military junta and lying the whole world about them . These communist always want to show the world that they are the best. Yeah I am agree with that. They are the best in lying the whole world. Look at their swimmers and runners last time when they started competing in Olympics all Drugs cheat. Now look at their recent Olympics chinese gymnest girls probably all under age and systemetically lie by the chinese goverment itself.

That is disgusting! It is the worst thing I’ve seen recently! It is not the lip-sync. Britney did i when she came to Brazil, but we knew it was Britney in the stage also… even if lip-sync.
It is the way they did it.
Tell a girl she had the voice, but she is ugly to be in the TV. She was left in a dirt cupboard, while the fake one took the glory for something she did not (maybe she did not know she did not sing). If the guy had not come clean about the truth, the world would be still believing in a lie!

The girl they used looked much better than the girl who actually sang. The original girl looks like a regular child while the other one goes towards sexy teen. I would have doen the same. I don’t see what are you crying about.
I’m from China. But I think some official is not justic and in fact Yang Peiyi is also very cute. You can’t imagine how many Chinese people are moved by her voice. Some people say China shouldn’t be trusted. I really can’t agree with this since it was someone who made this decision instead of all Chinese (US gov also cheated public in order to launch war on Iraq because America has a lot of big weapon makers and they need sell their killing products and American need jobs). Most of Chinese people are also angry with this issue.

When i found out about this, i was absoutely devistated, the poor girl.
She must have felt gutted when they turned her away for not being pretty enough, and then they took anther girl who has been getting all the credit for the amazing voice. Its appauling.
Yang Peiyi is, in my opinion, an extremely adorable little girl, such a shame china did this, i feel no sympathy for them if people no-longer like them anymore.
Whoever did the singing, it would have been recorded & lip synched at the ceremony, in order to maintain sound quality.
Both girls are cute, although the older does look a bit more western, which may have been the deciding factor. And it simply might have been decided that Yang looked too young.
I’m not saying it was right on any level, just that there may have been reasons given to Yang Peiyi that didn’t damage her self esteem in the process.

they are so horrid they deprived a 7 year old of her chance to sing with her angelic voice… its a gift not everyone can have. But for Lin, you cannot blame her. China ministers just wanted the performance to be “perfect”…
Well, just before the Olympics, China drove away its peasants living near the stadium & rounded up on its migrant workers. For what purpose?
Why, to “clean up” the streets & impress foreigners, of course.
Using the admittedly conventionally-prettier Lin to ‘front’ their opening ceremony is, by their very actions, a no-brainer. Still, imposing ADULT beauty standards on little children does make one feel more than a little queasy.
But if Chinese officials stubbornly insist on matter over mind, why not use a bit of imagination & “work” on Yang? She’s actually quite cute too – all she needs is a good dress & change of hairstyle, which shouldn’t be too difficult, no?
