Danica Patrick made headlines this week with her Indy 500 run in which she finished fourth. But I think the question most guys are asking is “why is this girl hot?” I mean, she’s basically your average looking American female, and I’m sure guys see women like her everyday and don’t pay any attention, but maybe it is the fireproof racing gear that gives her a little something that say “whoa, she’s a babe.” She did pretty good for a woman they say, but I doubt that will please her. Year Best start Best finish Danica Patrick 4 (2005) 4 (2005) Sarah Fisher 9 (2002) 21 (2004) Lyn St. James 6 (1994) 11 (1992) Janet Guthrie 14 (1979) 9 (1978) Not sure, but you be the judge. Hot or not?]]>
My friend Scott just finished his house, which has been a laborious event. His blog has a special section on the pains and trials of building something. I’m in the same boat–I hired a contractor to add a small roof deck on my existing deck to secure against water. That was 9 months ago. I now have leaks and a half-completed thing on my roof, which is growing really annoying. Thankfully I’m pretty patient, but with Summer coming an no air conditioner unit installed (it was removed for construction) I think my patience is wearing thin. God forbid if we have to build a place sometime. I think if that occurs, we’ll go to Europe for six months and come back when it is done.]]>

The Washington Post reports Rumsfeld gave military officials the authority to shoot down, if necessary, a small plane that wandered into restricted airspace over the nation’s capital May 11. The plane, one of the federal officials said, came within “15 to 20 seconds” of being downed before its pilots finally heeded repeated orders to turn away from the city Actually, I suspect the story is BS and just an attempt to scare people. ]]>
Internet Radio links on PenguinRadio this week. Man it is a pain to keep them current. I have about 200 broken links left to fix, and I’m sure as soon as that is done and I run the program, the link checker will kick back another 200 or so offline (college radio stations are often offline in the summer, which really blows). At least my hand isn’t killing me. In other news, I think I’m going to be getting one of these shortly. ]]>
The other day I’m sitting downstairs when Trooper 7, the Maryland State Police helicopter on the Eastern Shore flies overhead heading towards its base in Easton. No big deal–happens a lot.
But about a mile offshore, it banked heavily and came right back toward my house. I mean right at my house. About 100 yards offshore, it stopped, hovering right outside. It put down its gear and stayed hovering.
Needless to say, I was a bit curious. I flipped on the Coast Guard radio to discover two jet skiiers had crashed just down the way about 50 yards. I flipped on the boots and tromped along the shoreline to find one of the jet skis sunk and the other under repair. But then they asked me “have you seen a canoe?”
“No”
“He’s missing”
I then looked to the pier and saw some firemen from North Beach and from the Navy base looking out to sea. I climbed up to talk to them and they said a canoe was missing and thought to be in the drink. The helicopter started searching down the shore and eventually reported “I see a canoe about two miles past the Navy base.” The firemen mounted up and drove down there to investigate, and I decided to head back home.
I then ran into my neighbor who said “It’s my canoe–someone borrowed it without asking. Stupid dumb ass.”
Well, it eventually turned out they found the guy. He was in town at a bar, just borrowing the canoe to “get some bait” to go fishing but he changed his mind and decided to get a drink.

120 shots to kill the five buffalo. Didn’t the Indians used to kill them with a few arrows? So much for semi-autmoatics being these awful deadly weapons. Can’t even kill a cow…]]>
