Deliveryman arrested in Maryland Mayor Cheye Calvo drug raid case

Police in Maryland have arrested the deliveryman in the SWAT team radio on a Maryland mayor’s house. Police broke down the door of the mayor’s home, shot his dogs, and held the mayor and his wife as ‘persons of interest’ after a 32lb box of pot was intercepted by drug sniffing dogs in transit. Police had no reason to suspect the mayor or his wife (who the package was addressed to) but went ahead with a ‘no knock’ search and seizure (despite not having a warrant for a no knock search).

Half a dozen deliveries were found to be carrying contraband, to a tune of about $3.6 million dollars. Despite this police have yet to exonerate the mayor, calling him ‘likely an innocent bystander’ but not entirely sure.

  1. This should not have happened if the officers and their supervisor took a little time to do their homework. Was there a history of drugs being sent to this home? NO. The police could have done a real investigation about the residents ( it was the Mayor for goodness sake) before they found a judge to sign their search warrant. What the heck were the officers and the judge thinking? It is obvious they were not. The killing of the family dogs was unnecessary, since they were not the type of animlas that would attack humans. I sincerley hope there is an outside investigation and criminal and civil charges are filed against the all of the officers.

  5. As a civil rights attorney who sues bad cops, this does not surprise me. Usually the police get away with this cowboy stuff. They do it routinely. Maybe since this happened to the mayor, we who defend the US constitution against the actions of the police may obtain more credibility with the average citizen who can’t believe the police act this way.
I am so sorry for the loss of this couple…. not to mention the trauma to them.

  9. This is a clear case of stereotyping, if I ever saw one. I cannot help but notice that the mayor has a Hispanic name. Someone in authority is envious of the mayon and wants to hurt him. I would question not only the delivery man but all those that invaded Mr. Calvo’s home as well as their superiors. The federal investigation is an excellent way to go. My deepest sympathy to Mr. and Mrs. Calvo for the loss of their beloved pets and for the traumatic experience they were exposed to.

  17. Dan, on behalf of myself and other cowboys, I object to your use of the term “cowboy” in reference to this incident. What the police did was cruel, reckless, illegal, fascist and evil. And that ain’t “cowboy.”

  21. profp – forgive my brashness, but how in the heck am I supposed to teach my children to trust you and your fellow “Cowboys,” when these SS raids are becoming common place. I’m sorry, but the officers involved in your anti-drug task forces are nothing short of the Schutzstaffel.
Until I see otherwise, you know, things involving actual homework, it is not going to chain my perception. Right now, the only thing I smell, is the foul stench of pigs.

  25. josh you misunderstood. profb is saying he fancys himself a cowboy like a real cowboy that does stuff with cows and doesnt like you using the word cowboy to describ these obviously bored pigs. he isnt a pig hes a cowboy and doesnt want you making it sound like cowboys illegaly exicute a warrent in a no knock fasion (dispite maryland not even having a such thing as a no knock warrent in there laws and by law had to knock and anounce therselves before entry) and blow away inocent peoples pets.
i am amazed that they didnt wait for him to open it or try and buy some from him or even research who he was before they did this. i mean how hard would it be to suspect that the guy incharge of delivering to the area wouldnt be involved. oldest trick in the smuglers book for christ sakes.
