Unlike Beijing, in which the nations entered in Chinese alphabetical order, the Winter Olympics in Vancouver will have the nations arriving in French alphabetical order, English order according to some published reports. Of course there are two exception–Greece will be first, and Canada will be last (as the host nation). The USA will be the 82nd nation to enter. The opening ceremony is being dedicated to the memory of Nodar Kumaritashvilvi, the Georgian luge athlete that died earlier today. This is the best list I can find so far. We’ll see if I can find a better one before the parade starts.

I think they’re going in English alphabetical. If they were going according French, the United States would be with the ‘E’ section – Etats Unis.

Yup, it was English as far as I can tell. Taiwan was slightly out of position if you consider they are supposed to be Chinese Taipei.

Why was Macedonia out of order? They came out around France and Georgia.

Karen,
Macedonia was in the F’s because it is listed at the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.

RE: Macedonia… we noticed that the Canadian greeters in white were dancing when Macedonia was shown entering, BUT when the other countries who were shown before and after (the F’s and G’s) the greeters in white were just standing there. But later, when the rest of the M’s came out, the greeters were danincing again. I think it was a mistake in editing?!

The dancers dance for the whole parade and as we saw in Beijing and other Olympics, sometimes they get tired and take a short break. You’ll find them dancing (and stopping) throughout bits of the parade.

Macedonia is the Former Yugoslav republic, hence Macedonia entering in with the other “F”‘s…the iran/israel comment by the commentator referred to another opening ceremony when Iran backed out, refusing to particiapte along with Israel

I was one of the dancers in white. Depending on the music, what else was going on on stage and what point we were at, we were told to either groove, sway, stand at attention or stand at ease. They tried to mix it up for us so we didn’t do anything for too long. We all had monitors so they could give us instructions in real-time.
