Palbasha Siddique and a high-definition commercial for hope

Those who are on my email lists have probably gotten a dozen messages by now telling them to watch and enjoy the ‘Where the Hell is Matt 2008′ video that is taking the Internet by storm. But now I’ve actually found an article about the 17-year-old Bengali girl plucked from an obscure public access radio station clip in Minnesota and turned into an overnight sensation (#6 on Amazon downloads right now).

Great article on Palbasha Siddique in which the author properly calls this commercial a high def commercial for hope.

And in case you want to buy the song.

Team SlipStream is Twittering the Tour de France live

SlipStream sports, aka Team Chipotle/Garmin is live Twittering their progress in the Tour de France. Unfortunately yesterday was a bit intense and they swore on live TV. Oops. But if you want real live time coverage you might want to check that out. They also have a pretty good blog.

And for those who are wondering, I’ve done about one day on the rollers. I’ve been too busy to get on the bike during the day, added to the fact that I wore my tennis shoes I use on the bike out in the Bay the other day while canoeing, so I’ve got to run out and get a new pair (or wash the old one).

Maybe we should start calling them 'Dishonor' killings.

Yet another ‘honor killing’ is being reported, this time in the US.

Why are they called honor killings? It’s is as if the media is trying to justify the killing in some way, implying that yes, there was a killing, but it was for honor.

Perhaps the media needs to re-examine itself and consider calling these ‘dishonor killings’, implying that there is dishonor in the killing itself.

Apple tells Canadian phone company to get stuffed

for the new Apple iPhone 3G given the obscene fees Rogers is demanding.

Canadian Apple Retail stores won’t be selling the new 3G touchscreen phones come Friday, representatives for the Cupertino-based company said during a private conference call on Monday evening. Instead, it will be up to Rogers and its partner Fido to lock subscribers into steep 3-year contracts that require a minimum monthly payment of $60 for just 150 minutes, 75 text messages, and 400MB of data.

You’d kind of think they would have talked about rates before they did the deal, no?

Another currency bites the dust–Goodbye Korunas

Time to look in your drawers for leftover Korunas as the Euro is coming to Slovakia. Effect next January you’ll no longer be dealing in Korunas but Euros.

Ever wonder what currencies are no longer used? See if you can match up these to the country they are from.

Modern vs. Contemporary

Washington Post. “Contemporary is the latest thing. It’s the stuff of Pottery Barn. It’s current,” said Jacobsen, a Georgetown designer. “Modern is not. It is a specific movement and way of life that is rooted in a different period of time. It drives me crazy when people mix up the two.” Well now I stand corrected.

What I do know is that I basically hate the design style of most Washington places. Dark woods, heavy colors, Victorian era everything. If I had the money I’d love to renovate a townhouse into an ultra-modern minimalist masterpiece, shocking the neighbors as they roll in yet another faux antique chair. But to be honest, as a guy who wears the same shirts he did 10 years ago and buys the same brand/model shoe every two years (I like what I like)–I don’t think home design is high on my list of priorities right now.]]>
