Seal kills scientist at South Pole

Yahoo is reporting on the death of a British scientist in Antartica from a seal. She was scuba diving when the seal attacked her, apparently. Not sure how you get killed by a seal. In related news, I saw a really big fish that I thought was a seal. I also have still yet to finish the book “”South”” which is about Antartica. Not much else to report.]]>

Iraqwar I have a post today about the diminishing number of units in reserve. We are trying to accomplish a 16-division world with 10-divsions right now. It isn’t working out very well. I also don’t know the status of our carriers right now. I’m kind of wondering if we have that many to deploy, given the rather long duty several had to pull during Iraqi Freedom.

I've been there

the Moscow Times has some pretty intense photos. Anyway, in looking at the pictures, I realized I’ve been where that bomb was. It’s just a few blocks up from the Mariott Grand hotel in Moscow, and it’s probably at a restaurant frequented by a bunch of expats and New Russians. Kind of scary to know the area of a bomb blast. ]]>

Faster than Fast food

The Washington Post reports that McDonalds is now trying self-service ordering kiosks at some of their stores in an effort to speed up transactions. Unfortunately, having watched some of the people at McDonalds deal with the complexities of reading the menu, I’m afra| this new advance will simply make me more annoyed while I wait for some |iot to figure it out. My favorite McDonalds’ ordering story came in DC, where this old blue-haired woman spent about five minutes reading the menu in front of me, and refusing to let the clerk help anyone else. She finally ordered a “”hamburger, medium-well.”” The clerk looked and sa| “”we don’t do them that way.”” Annoyed, she replied “”well what way do you do them.”” “”Done””. I laughed, the clerk laughed, and the old lady stormed out.

Posting on slashdot

Russian Order Mobile Phone Encryption turned off. I read it in the Moscow Times (a daily read for me) and felt like making this a bit wider known. I put it on slashdot and to my suprise, it was posted two hours later. On top of that, Drudgereport picked it up so now the MoscowTimes site is getting clobbered. Poor guys.
