You don't see this much anymore

I grabbed the top photo off the Air Force’s website. Minimum Interval Take Off of some tankers in Europe, and below a MITO B-52 many years ago. MITO was used to get all the planes into the air as fast as humanly possible (in case the airbase was nuked by a Russian ICBM). Kind of neat to see the KC-135 with new engines as the original airframe is really just a 707.]]>

Rorke's Drift anniversery

The BBC reports that British and Zulu officials are gathering in South Africa to mark the 125th anniversary of one of Britain’s heaviest military defeat. Some 1,500 British soldiers were killed as they were defeated in the 1879 battle of Isandhlwana, while, on the same day, 145 South Wales Borderers held off an army of Zulu warriors in the battle of Rorke’s Drift – immortalised by the 1963 film, Zulu. If you haven’t seen the movie Zulu, you probably won’t understand this battle. Michael Caine’s first film is one for the ages. The final 20 minutes will have you on the edge of your seat. ]]>

The Death of Kerafyrm

This blog describes the battle that lasted over three hours and took the combined efforts of 200 warriors from three various (and sometimes fighting) guilds. Sony was totally freaked that they would even attempt this, and was forced to remove the dragon after he was killed. Think about it–200 grown men (mostly) gathered together over the net to fight for three hours against a virtual enemy. It’s staggering. Just staggering….]]>

The Greek dog is home

dog story from San Jose? A women has and loves a dog, teaches it to respond in Greek. Loses dog one day and cannot find it at the shelter. Visits three times but no dog is there? Enter a 10-year old who wants to adopt a dog. She adopts the missing dog (which was at the shelter “”somewhere””) and bonds with the dog. Woman comes back to the shelter, sees her dog and says “”My dog!”” Shelter says “”sorry, you didn’t claim it in the alloted five days and now it belongs to someone else.”” Well, the women threatened a lawsuit, and now the young girl has given up her dog. A really sad story for someone. Here’s my take: This very nice dog came in to the shelter and the employees knew there was a little girl looking for a new dog. They “”set her aside”” so the little girl could get a well trained and clean dog, only to later have the owner return. We’ll probably never know, but the excuses the shelter employees are giving about where the dog was for the five days are really lame and flakey. ]]>

Do not follow instructions

CNN is reporting that the latest issue of Britian’s top hiking magazine contained a route that would lead climbers off the edge of a cliff on Britain’s tallest peak. The February edition of Trail magazine gives advice to walkers caught in bad weather on Ben Nevis in Scotland about how to make a safe descent. Unfortunately, they forgot a few things and the path directed would take them right over the edge.]]>
