This is so cool
Sydney Papers are all over this story, but it hasn’t made it stateside. GODZILLA IS REAL! GODZILLA IS ALIVE!
DATELINE–Port Moresby
Reports are that a live dinosaur had been sighted on a volcanic island of Papua New Guinea prompted the deployment of heavily-armed police in search of the mystery creature.
Villagers in the superstitious island province of East New Britain this week said they fled in terror after seeing a three-metre tall, grey-coloured creature with a head like a dog and a tail like a crocodile.
Hmm..maybe it’s Gadzooky.

BusinessWeek is confirming that Microsoft executives were behind Baystar VC fund’s decision to invest in the lawsuit happy SCO group. SCO, for those just waking up, is suing LINUX users for copyright violations, a suit most geeks thinks has absolutely no merit. Now that MSoft is seen with dirty hands in arranging the Baystar transaction, expect a war cry to go out on the net against Redmond.]]>
SeatGuru which has reviews of all seats on all aircraft of all airlines. We’re kind of stuck in coach on the way over to Tokyo (drat) but we will have a power outlet in the seat which will let me watch my own movies if I want. On the way back though, I managed to get the holiest of exit rows possible and will have no one in front of me for the 13+ hours back to LAX. LAX-IAD is going to be pretty good too as I got another exit row, including the “weird” seat they sometimes have that has no person in front of it. Amazing what having 200k miles can do for a trip. Free flights, hotels, etc. I’m looking forward not only to seeing the new tech toys in Tokyo, but also a chance to see the state of the net in China (wonder if I can get an 802.11 signal). We’ll also hit the Cherry Blossoms in Tokyo (which sounds really pretentious in DC– “I’m passing on the Tidal Basin this year and off to Tokyo to see the real Cherry Blossoms). Hehehe… More to come. ]]>
News24 out of South Africa has the story. It also has this quote from the foreign minister about the US sanctions on Zimbabwe produce: “I am flattered that these hamburger-eating imperialists are interested in my tomatoes… but I am sending them to Mbare Musika” Maybe I should get out my DVD of “The Dogs of War” and watch it a few times, or just send it to the Zimbabwe embassy as a hint.]]>
Max Schmeling was the heavyweight champion of the world back in the 1930s. I’m watching a movie about him and Joe Louis right now, and it’s pretty interesting. Apparently Schmeling, despite dining with Hitler and talking at length with other Nazis, had a number of Jewish friends and associates. He even helped secrety save a couple of boys during Krystallnacht. After World War 2 Schmeling fought five times and though he never made the top 10, he made enough money to purchase the Coca-Cola dealership that he still operates. He is known as one of the most generous philanthropists in Germany today.]]>
