Pagination in search results

You know, when you are trying to figure out how to do this, it is a bear. But once you see the code laid out in front of you, you are like “man am I an idiot.” One of problems we had was people searching subjects like Sex Podcasts and simpler searches like BBC Podcasts that were generating 100s, in not 1000s of hits ALL displayed on one page. I finally got it set up so all pages display 10 podcasts before display a “NEXT PAGE” option. Man, what took me so long? I have to implement that on PenguinRadio as well.]]>

Adding easier additions to the Podcast site

One of the problems with our podcast site is the time it takes to add a station. Most podcast sites just scrape the main ipodder database and put in what they find, but we’ve tried to get more details than you can find just from the directory (such as location and user-defined tags) that aren’t found in the XML. But we finally had to relent and allow for an easier addition process. Users can quickly add their podcasts and we do the heavy data entry at the back end by our parsers. The problem is that itunes tags are a bit non-standard RSS and I haven’t gotten around to fixing that just yet. Next project.]]>
