Max Schmeling was the heavyweight champion of the world back in the 1930s. I’m watching a movie about him and Joe Louis right now, and it’s pretty interesting. Apparently Schmeling, despite dining with Hitler and talking at length with other Nazis, had a number of Jewish friends and associates. He even helped secrety save a couple of boys during Krystallnacht. After World War 2 Schmeling fought five times and though he never made the top 10, he made enough money to purchase the Coca-Cola dealership that he still operates. He is known as one of the most generous philanthropists in Germany today.]]>

Microsoft is paying SCO according to this memo. If authentic, then it’s really a smoking gun for what most people have thought for the last year–that Microsoft was behind the legal suits coming out of SCO. SCO, for those who don’t know, bought some code from Novell for UNIX. Now they are suing everyone under the sun for using LINUX, which they claim was illegally copied from UNIX. It wasn’t, nor does SCO even own UNIX (another story) but the lawsuits continue.]]>

Mayday call & Coast Guard response can be heard. It’s a bit eerie though thinking about it. I couldn’t bring myself to listen to the whole thing. Kind of annoyed with the media attention this has received. 3 were killed immediately, but the other 18 were almost an afterthought even 48 hours after the accident. The water is 50 degrees and the life span of a sailor in that water isn’t that long. ]]>
