Comcast DOCIS 3.0 rolled out in Calvert County

I’m here waiting for my new DOCIS3.0 modem to arrive from the Comcast man (1.5 hours into my 3 hour install window). So in preparation I decided to do one last ‘normal’ cable modem test before the new one comes in.

Actually the speeds today are not that bad. I guess everyone is off at work now and not browsing the net. I’ll update this post later with the speedtest.net results for the new service.

Old “Normal” Cable Modem:

UPDATE:

After a few fits and starts, we now have DOCSIS 3.0 service.  It required me to replace my 7 year old router (who’d of thunk that?) but now all systems are go and we have, ta da, 60mb down.

What package are you using? Is that with the standard online service or a more beefier one?

Honestly, I don’t know. I asked if they had DOCSIS 3 available and they said yes. I had 16mb under the old system and they said the new was about 55mb (but as you see the test was 60-62mb down). I think it cost about $20 more than the 16mb package I had before.

Ah nice, I actually looked it up and talked to a few friends who work at Comcast. (worked there for 6 years myself) That 50Mbps interent is $99 a month. not sure what other services you have with Comcast, but make sure that you are not in for a big suprise 6 months down the road :D
