How much did the Olympic opening ceremony cost?

No one is really saying offically what Beijing spent, but a most estimates put it at about $100 million in some of the media. That means:

That’s about $476,000 per minute and almost $8,000 per second and more than twice the cost of the 2004 Athens opening ceremony

One thing is for sure, London is going to have a hell of a task trying to top this one…

UPDATE: Roger Ebert is quoting the other figure, $300 million. Now that would be a bit crazy.

I’m not sure but tickets for the opening ceremony are usually $1000 US or more face value.

the olympics opening ceremony cost in total $54 million yen. they had to bust down houses for the olympics. it is so sad it cost that much just for the opening ceremony

i herd that the Olympics costed upwards of 45 billion dollars and the opening ceremony Costed no less than $47 Million US Dollars.

and just think if they used half any of those figures for there people how much better they would be off?
and i have also read reports all the actors were actually also Soldiers i am not sure if they were there for security or for other reasons.
in addition i would say the Olympic was china’s last step toward Super Power Status

Jon i am with you. the 100 million dollars that was spent could have saved the lives of a 100 million people. Frankly i am becoming more and more disgusted by the amount of money that we spend on ridiculous things when there are people that can’t even afford food. sad really…

just because certain people cant stand how much money was spent, doesnt mean that people ARENT helping out. Seriously, if you are so disgusted with how much money was spent, go to Africa 3 times and come back and tell me. The opening ceremony was the best ever done, stop bitching about how much money was put into it, and appreciate it for what it is. I have been to Africa 3 times and still can enjoy how bloody brilliant the ceremony was.

The soldiers used as actors is a quite common things in china.Because I am a chinese.We like the performance to be done with a nearly perfect uniform. The soldiers can be sent to any accasions need a lot of people.like in a movie. rescue especially performance.
