I predict that XM radio will actually become mainstream eventually.
I can see that in the future some smart FM / AM companies will decide to put their own satellites up there and offer Free XM radio, but with advertisements like on regular FM/AM. It just makes sense.

Just my thoughts.

I would gladly pay for a special radio to get Free XM radio with commercials. I am sure there are others that would do the same as well.

Are you kidding??? Internet radio is the one dying here. Pandora.com, the most successful internet radio website out there, announced this week that they're pulling the plug on operations because they can't afford to pay the royalties for song plays.

You even mentioned in your article hearing advertisements. Commercials are what made the niche for Sirius and XM in the first place. Also, the internet radio stations that stream commercial free, rely on their web ads for revenue. Unfortunately for them, nobody listening in their car or via iphone is seeing those ads. They're resorting to other forms of revenue (subscriptions fees and audio ads).

This whole article was written based on one experience of internet radio today, without any real thought into it's future.

Your crazy if you think the iphone is going to kill satellite radio. The i-phone can't get crystal clear reception anywhere on the planet. I can vouch for this as AT&T doesn't have transmission towers all over our planet. But with Sirius XM satellite radio and don't forget their TV too that runs without a huge satellite dish, they will dominate!
